To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:
Appleの取締役会およびAppleのコミュニティーへI have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
私は前々から、AppleのCEOとして自分の職務を果たせず、期待通りにいかない日が来た場合、最初に皆さんにお知らせすると述べてきました。残念なことに、その日が来てしまいました。I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
私はここにAppleのCEOを辞任します。取締役会が認めてくれるのであれば、私は取締役会会長、取締役、Appleの従業員として務めていきたいと思っています。As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
私の後継者については、後継者計画を実行し、ティム・クック氏をAppleのCEOに指名することを強く勧めます。I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
私はAppleの最も輝かしく革新的な日が待ち受けていることを信じています。そして、新たな役割でその成功を目にしたり、貢献できることを期待しています。I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

何時かは来るであろう、この日が、しかし予想も出来ぬ程に早く来たしまったという感じです。
今後、Apple の CEO には Steve Jobs 不在に指揮をとっていた Tim Cook が就任し、Steve Jobs は取締役会会長へ就任するそうです。
そして、新 CEO Tim Cook の采配を振るう Apple の動向に期待します。
